At Mr B & Friends our mantra is ‘Where next?’. We thrive on asking questions, being curious and challenging the status quo. We recognise that standing still isn’t an option for our clients and the markets they operate in, but our mantra also drives our approach to our people and our business. It’s with this in mind that we’ll be trialling a new way of working at 3TQ.
For a six-month period, 10 members of our team will be working as a ‘pod’. This will essentially be a small team with a carefully considered blend of skillsets who will operate as an autonomous unit in terms of project delivery, budget management and client satisfaction. The pod will be led by Account Director Nic Jarvie and Senior Art Director Chris Tozer and will comprise a mix of client services, creative and production team members. The team will still be supported by the agency’s Senior Management, as well as having equal access to the planning and digital teams, but will be dedicated to just a handful of clients.
Mr B & Friends was at its most efficient as a small team, and while we’re thrilled to have grown so steadily, we’d like to rekindle some of the benefits we enjoyed when at a boutique size, though with the advantage of having a larger agency infrastructure.
Research around this approach to working reports significant benefits to agency clients. Pod working enables a broader and deeper understanding of client business, an agility and responsiveness to work flows and higher levels of quality brought about by the accountability of a small well formed team.
The impact of the pod on the team is positive too, as they operate as an autonomous, close-knit business unit learning new skills and deeper knowledge of clients and disciplines.
CEO and Founder Simon Barbato says, “The agency has thrived over the last few years and we’ve enjoyed some decent growth and entered into some excellent longstanding client relationships. Our primary concern has always been our ability to deliver the value that clients want. The traditional agency model is at odds with this customer centric focus. Our research has taken us as far as the US and having seen pod working in real life, we’re confident that we have the platform to develop this new way of working successfully. The trial period will help us to refine our approach and get it perfect before we expand to the whole agency.”
The pilot pod swings into action this week.
