The IOD’s Director of the Year National Award is fast approaching and this year it includes Simon Barbato, founder of Mr B & Friends, one of the fastest growing marketing agencies in the UK. Earlier this year Simon won the IOD’s Regional Director of the Year for The South West.
The IOD’s national award recognises the best directors in their field and is held annually to underline the organisation’s belief in the value of leadership, acknowledging the fact that this quality is often the only difference between success and failure for a company.
There are just thirteen candidates in the SME category (turnover less than £10m) and Simon is the only marketing services candidate in the group. The award is sponsored by Hiscox and judges include representatives of the Financial Times, Ernst & Young, the Bank of Ireland and The Co-Operative Society alongside senior representatives of the IOD itself.
In addition to this good news Mr B & Friends has just been awarded 28th place nationally for client satisfaction in The Drum Independent Agencies Census. The survey, conducted by the Recommended Agency Register (RAR), provides a comprehensive review of the UK’s most effective agencies, highlighting the key players, trends and growth in the marketing sector.
Simon Barbato comments, “2016 is our 10th anniversary and our strongest year so far from a financial perspective. We’ve come a long way in a decade and are now winning work regularly over London agencies twice our size, showing that clients no longer care too much about the post code of their marketing partner. In fact, our home town of Bath, and neighbouring Bristol, have become creative hot spots, attracting an enormous amount of talent and enabling us to give the capital a run for its money from the perspective of strategy, creative thinking and sheer value. Obviously, we are all delighted with the IOD award and the results of The Drum Census, which underline all the hard work put in by the whole team at Mr B & Friends. Needless to say this has been an extra and completely unexpected birthday present for us all. ”
