Putting the bounce back into British basketball
Putting the bounce back into British basketball
Basketball is one of the most-played team sports in Britain. But when it comes to attracting government backing, the ball seems to drop out of sight. The UK’s organising body, GB Basketball, needed a brand that would demand attention. And crucially, attract investment in the competitive funding arena.
This is a sport defined by its accessibility. That reaches children in deprived areas. Offers positive role models and sparks confidence and ambition. A sport in which, by participating – by watching, funding, playing – you can truly ‘make your mark’.
So how do we make that impact felt? We make a mark of our own.
No computer screens. No photoshop. We went real world. Taking over an aircraft hangar and enlisting Team GB’s players to create the new GB Basketball logomark, live.
We had the athletes throw paint-covered basketballs onto paper, capturing the dynamic, kinetic energy of the sport. And commissioned Bristol-based graffiti artist, Silent Hobo, to make one-off GB branded balls. The resulting visual identity feels authentic. Sharing characteristics of the urban art that’s become a hallmark of the courts of grassroots teams.
Brave. Energetic. Alive.
Just like those who play.
For a brand that challenges people to get involved and make their own mark within the sport. And the step-change GB Basketball needed to attract additional funding and secure a successful, sustainable future.
We put the bounce back into GB Basketball.
