Earlier this year we set out a creative brief to graduates, offering them the opportunity to knock our socks off for a chance to win our Future Friends internship. One particular grad stood out among the rest.
We’re pleased to introduce Nathan Shellard – our Future Friends intern 2017. We asked him to give a round-up of the application process and tell us a bit more about what makes him tick.
Take it away Nathan!
“Hi I’m Nathan, graduate of the Arts University Bournemouth, breaker of my own bank account, Father to no one, owner to one very soppy dog and drinker of many coffees.
The quest for an internship
I began my job search by scouting various design agency websites and highlighting key elements that intrigued me. I found that it was important for me to like the style of the company’s brand along with the work they were producing. As soon as I scrolled through MrB’s website I instantly wanted to get in contact. I emailed Sheena asking about availability and she informed me of a program that the company runs called Future Friends. This sounded ideal and I applied as soon as I could. It’s a 6-month program for creatives that allows you to work on live projects with the professionals, immersing yourself in the world of design and getting to learn all the tricks of the trade.
The application process involved answering a brief that was both enjoyable and challenging, allowing you to show off your creative mind and practical skills that you’ve cultivated along the way. I took this opportunity to express my love for innovation and ideas generation; I love pushing those boundaries!”
Wowing the design team
Sheena Mistry, our Design Director, was a part of the judging panel for the Future Friends submissions:
“With his digital first approach to design we were all drawn to Nathan’s solution, and his creative was perfectly aligned to the brief, target audience and executed beautifully. We look forward to seeing him flourish in the Mr B studio.”
It seems our culture was a draw for Nathan too –
“Another great attribute that really contributed to my desire to work for MrB’s was the community spirit that shines throughout the company. I wanted to be a part of a team that works hard, creates great work but also knows how to enjoy themselves at the same time, I’ve heard Friday beers are a thing?!”
(Yup, you’re right there)
“I can’t wait to get stuck into live projects, working collaboratively with a great creative team and helping out where and when I can. This is where my design career starts for me!”
It’s great to have you on board Nathan, welcome to the team!
